Vitmedics has taken the national Innovation title at the 2021 Family Business of the year awards organised by Family Business United (‘FBU’).
Vitmedics was founded by Michael Wakeman, a pharmacist with a Masters in Nutritional Medicine, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Clinical Oncology and a lifetime within the health and nutrition sector.
As previous head of a company that researched natural products and developed them to licensed medicines alongside leading figures such as Nobel Laureate in Medicine, Sir James Black, Michael always sought to deliver real science in nutrition as a fundamental. With so many fad products and supplements on the market with limited supporting evidence Vitmedics have developed a platform which enables anyone to be confident in their quest for nutritional needs. They don’t just claim to have supporting research, but they actually provide it alongside each and every nutritional recommendation Vitmedics makes.
Michael is delighted to accept the award, adding that “This award means so much to us at Vitmedics. Although we are a small, family run business we try to uphold the highest standards in everything we do, because we believe our customers really should expect true authenticity when they invest their time and money in the services we provide. We have been innovative in many ways and being recognised for our innovation is fantastic.”
“Winning this award is such a huge honour and is dedicated to all the people who have made it possible,” concludes Mike.
Kirsty Ross, Head of Family Business for KPMG Private Enterprise in Scotland, sponsors of the award for innovation added, “As always there were a lot of amazing entries this years and some strong contenders for the innovation award. Although a relatively young family business at the start of their journey, Vitmedics are truly deserving of this award. Not only have they developed an innovative product but they have continuously had to innovate over the past year as a result of the pandemic.”
As Paul Andrews, founder of FBU and organisers of the awards concludes, “Family businesses are the engine room of the UK economy and these awards celebrate their contribution and this award seeks to recognise the outstanding contribution of a small but innovative family business. Vitmedics is undeniably innovative in their approach and are already being recognised for their work in the world of nutrition.”
“Not only do they have strong family values and an ethos based on excellent customer service, they find innovative solutions and are constantly adapting to overcome any obstacle they encounter. Innovation is part of their DNA and it is fantastic to see them win this award,” concludes Paul.
